Polish opposition parties resemble a Hungarian debate from two years earlier: should all democratic parties unite against an authoritarian government, regardless of ideology? The Hungarian experiment didn’t succeed, but Poland’s largest opposition party, Civic Platform (PO), argued passionately that threats to the rule of law, EU relations, and minority rights require cross-party coalitions. Preparations for the October 15 Polish elections show mixed results. Some smaller parties joined larger coalitions, while others remained independent. The question remains: how does this strategy work for them?
