Your true adversary isn’t the opposition, but the apathy of those who choose not to partake in the democratic process of elections.

George Jean Nathan said it best when he stated, “Bad officials are elected by good citizens who don’t vote.” By not exercising your right to vote, you empower, enable and inadvertently support “bad officials.” And this is exactly what’s happening in my home country: South Africa.

You might not be familiar with the political intricacies of the southernmost country on the African continent. However, there’s a crucial lesson here that Europe needs to heed to avoid future electoral pitfalls.
