It is always challenging to stand out on a crowded stage when in a debate, one has to share the microphone with candidates from 10 different political parties or even more. This struggle is often felt in national elections of pluralistic societies like the Netherlands. Yet, at the local level, big parties meet with a sea of candidates that are community leaders, or that dare to test the reach of their smaller political organizations in front of smaller audiences before hitting the big national electoral stage.
Today, we look at the mayor election in Vilnius on March 5th, an excellent example of an election where candidates needed to be visible among the sixteen contenders for the top position in the Lithuanian capital. In the following visual journey, we will review some of the main tips that made the candidates who reached the top four stand out. And we will also check what made Valdas Benkunskas win the race in the second round against Artūras Zuokas.
