Political journalism in Brussels has expanded fast in the last decade as the EU’s role in citizens’ daily lives has grown. Coverage of what parties do in the European Parliament was long of little interest to the wider public. Yet, since the UK’s 2016 Brexit vote, the European media scene has developed remarkably. Dedicated online outlets such as Politico Europe, Euractiv or EU Observer have doubled their staff of journalists and editors, and many more national media are present, recognising that Brussels is a place of power.

Last week, PartyParty sat down in Brussels with Benjamin Fox, Political Editor from EURACTIV, Sarah Wheaton, Chief Policy Correspondent of POLITICO and author of the EU Influence newsletter, and Maia de la Baume of the European People’s Party for a conversation on the challenges and opportunities for political journalism ahead of the EU election in 2024.
