French Mayor Yannick Morez recently resigned after death threats and experiencing arson attacks over a government project to host refugees. His resignation has emerged in the context of swelling support for the far-right and mainstream parties looking to amplify anti-immigration sentiment in an already tense political environment. Citing a  “lack of support from the State”, the Mayor of a town in western France, unaffiliated with any political party, announced he was stepping down “for personal reasons”. Both President Emmanuel Macron and his Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, expressed their “support” and “solidarity” to  Morez and his family.
