Bernie Sanders might not be the first Jewish President of the United States of America – a goal the senator gave up at the age of 81 after coming in second twice as the Democratic nominee for the presidency – but he is one hell of a successful non-fiction writer.

Back in 2019 Forbes magazine already reported that he had earned 1.7 million USD purely from publishing one political book each year between 2016 and 2019. In 2022 he collected 170,000 USD in royalties for his latest bestseller It’s OK To Be Angry About Capitalism. To put this figure in context, Sanders earns 174,000 USD a year as a senator. It must feel amazing to become rich by criticising the wealthiest – the irony his supporters adore as much as Sanders’ never ceasing anger against capitalism, a system in which he himself gets by excellently.

It’s OK To Be Angry is as much of a professional memoir that chronicles Bernie Sanders’ experience in the 2020 presidential race from candidate to Biden-endorser as it is a political manifesto, in short, that the government must guarantee economic rights to all of its people, and – according to Sanders – a “blueprint for progressive change – both economic and political.”
