As the war for the occupation of Ukraine reached its one-year anniversary on 24 February, and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, politicians of the Western World must understand the Russian worldview and motives to be able to deal with Putin’s Russia. A book of only 250 pages helps to gain some of this understanding by telling 1,000 years of Russian history, or rather 1,000 different ways in which said history was reinterpreted over and over by the country’s leaders.
