Burnout is a stress-related state of emotional, physical, or mental exhaustion. It can occur when the demands of a job are more significant than a person’s ability to manage them. Certain projects contain environmental factors that can lead to team burnout, such as long hours, strict deadlines, and insufficient resources. Crucially, burnout is not synonymous with stress. Depending on your personality type, you may react either positively or negatively to stress. Some team members find that small amounts of stress can help them feel more productive, while others find stress overwhelming and counterproductive.
But for anyone too much pressure and stress can eventually lead to burnout. In these cases, the person has been so worn down by stress that they feel a complete loss of energy and ability to work. While the benefits or detriments of slight stress vary from person to person, burnout is exclusively detrimental.
