Campaigns: aiming for national or local media coverage?
The condition of roads, the funding of local schools, the local employment rate — sadly, modern, populist politics seem to be less and less about the actual issues that matter. Instead, culture wars are taking over every kind of campaign, from city council races to European Parliament elections. And culture wars tend to be national, or even global.
Think of, for example, what dominated the US midterm elections. Abortion is a national topic. Inflation, but on a national level. The perception of rising crime rates across the country. And the narrative that the election is actually about whether American democracy can survive.
