Young people in the EU have lower rates of participation in electoral politics than their older counterparts. Finding the causes behind younger generations’ abstention is key to reversing the trend. This week’s edition of TLDR covers a study that grapples  with the question: is it  apathy or alienation  driving  the youths’ political passivity? The study, published in the European Journal of Developmental Psychology, found that apathy is a better predictor of youth political passivity than alienation. Passivity was mainly measured in abstention in national and/or European Union elections.
