Do political parties that support prominent members of civil society signify a strong commitment to a more responsive and inclusive type of governance? Or are they opportunists who deliberately take advantage of their cause/situation? I propose that these collaborations pave the way for collective advancement and a more just society by bridging the gap between grassroots movement and policymaking.
Over the last couple of years, there has been a growing trend among political parties actively recruiting candidates from civil society organisations and social movements. I see this as an effort by mainstream parties to build bridges with civil society and tap into new pools of talent in the face of declining membership and voter disillusionment.
