The 2022 Parliamentary elections in Latvia marked a tectonic shift in the representation of Russian speakers in the country’s political arena. The well established and powerful Social Democratic Party – Harmony, which used to be the biggest party in Parliament, shocked everyone when it did not pass the electoral threshold. Another major shocker was the 6.80% for newcomer party Stability, which also advocates for Russian minority politics with its charismatic leader Aleksejs Rosļikovs. This party shift surprised many, but not all.
