Managing GenZ volunteer expectations keen to climb up too fast the ladder your organisation

“The 37-Year-Olds Are Afraid of the 23-Year-Olds Who Work for Them” — an article with literally this title was published last year in the New York Times.

Generation Z or “ zoomers” is usually defined as people who were born after 1997. They have been called many things, similarly to generations before them: lazy, inconsistent, too driven by emotions, only caring about all things digital, also impatient, and now we are also supposed to be afraid of them apparently. While, I for one, highly disagree. GenZ people can represent a super valuable asset to any organisation, and yours should be no exception. They already make up at least 26% of the global population and together with Millenials, they represent 40% of today’s workforce. So you just simply cannot allow yourself and your organisation to not think about how to attract and retain them in your staff.
