How do you attract new, young talent into politics? Ricardo Marvão has more than an idea: he has proof. The Lisbon-based entrepreneur is the founder of Próxima Geração (Portuguese for “The Next Generation”), an apolitical Academy. The intense 12-week training programme is presently running in its third year. 30 young people from age 16 to 30 take part in a rigorous boot camp with a radical focus on practical politics.

And politics comes at the participants fast: for example, in one crisis management exercise, they get woken up at 5am and had to prepare an impromptu press conference downstairs in 30 minutes, to address the outbreak of a forest fire in their region.
