Four political movements on the rise!

After the turbulent years around the time of Brexit, the election of Donald Trump, and Emmanuel Macron’s movement shaking up French politics, nowadays it seems like there are less political innovations — for better or worse — in the West.

Of course, politics is never at a standstill, which means that some political forces and movements are always on the rise. We gathered 4 of these parties, each from a different European parliamentary group.

Freedom Movement — Slovenia

The rise of Slovenia’s Freedom Movement is almost unprecedented: the party, founded in May 2021, won the parliamentary election less than a year later. Robert Golob, its founder and party leader, became the prime minister, ousting Prime Minister Janez Janša’s right-wing party. Golob, a former businessman, was mainly successful because he was the polar opposite of the illiberal, populist Janša, who tried to influence the country’s justice system in his own favor.
