Tackling bullying among your political staff and membership

In the post-#Metoo era, political parties cannot afford not to have “codes of conduct” targeting sexual harassment, and in 2018, for the first time around the world, the UK Parliament introduced “The Scheme”, which investigates complaints about inappropriate behavior among those who work inside of the building.

“Bullying”, in the broader sense of the term, will also be challenged only when society stops tolerating the “tough” culture of politics in which people get carried away in “robust discussions” and “speak strongly” to one another. A Republican mother’s comment of Donald Trump illustrates the current reality: “The man liberals see as an arrogant bully, conservatives see as Rocky Balboa.”
